FALLIN INAUGURAL EVENT TO TAKE PLACE AT SCIENCE MUSEUM OKLAHOMA
OKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Elect Mary Fallin has selected Science Museum Oklahoma as a site for a family-friendly inaugural event. The invitation-only event will be held January 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. At 2:00 p.m. the museum will be open to the public. Guests who bring canned food items will be given free general admission for the remainder of the day.
"Each year Oklahomans from across the state bring their children to Science Museum Oklahoma. The fact is on any given day, according to statistics, 20 of our guests will go hungry, many of those will be children," said Don Otto, president of Science Museum Oklahoma. "By partnering with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma we can take steps toward making sure fewer Oklahomans go hungry, and we encourage all of our loyal visitors to participate on this special inaugural day."
All canned food items will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The overall goal for canned food items to be collected is 200 pounds, and guests are not limited to bringing just one item.
"We want to encourage everyone to join the fight against hunger in our state by donating at Science Museum Oklahoma," said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. "During the winter, 40 percent of our clients have to choose between paying for heat and buying food. No one should ever have to go to bed hungry."
The inaugural event is scheduled to take place January 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. after which the museum will open up to the general public for admission until closing time at 6:00 p.m. Guests will still be able to purchase general admission museum tickets even if they don’t have a canned food item, and dome theater tickets will be available for purchase to all guests.
